Zugzwang [After the Pulse Mix]

from Panopticon [ReMixed] by White Shadow

about

"I picked 'Zugzwang' because the vocal melodies in the chorus inspired me to do a massive wall-of-sound around them, with buzzing synths and synthetic choirs all over it. This was one of my first attempts to remix a rock band - up until that point, I had remixed mostly electronic or hip-hop artists; this would allow me to ditch everything but the vocal track and build something entirely new around it. I strived to remain faithful to the original elements of the track - mainly guitars, bass, cymbals, and vocals (though I did spice them up using an array of effects). It was very fun to add my own flavor to the synths while retaining the track's structure. I had to mix it using only headphones, because I couldn't carry my big monitor speakers to the apartment I currently live in, so I'm not entirely satisfied with the way I mixed it (as with everything I do, really). Fortunately, I managed to make it exactly like I had imagined it. I'm looking forward to working with these guys again."
